What do you do in your role at CHN?
My role is predominantly to complete file checks on the financial advisers to ensure that the files are compliant and keeping up to date with the regular changes of the fast pace environment that we work in.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?
For the past 25 years I have spent equal time providing independent financial advice and working in compliance roles. Having had a foot in both camps I fully understand the frustration when a file is graded anything other than suitable but I am always looking for reasons to pass files rather than to fail them. Unfortunately, this is not always possible but I can assure you I don’t get satisfaction from highlighting issues…….it only makes the role more difficult!
What’s something you’re proud of?
My children make me very proud, Alex is 17 and completing A Levels and recently qualified as a football referee to provide some income whilst at college. Having played football since the age of 6 and held a season ticket at Leeds United from the same age he decided blowing a whistle on a football field was far more interesting than washing dishes at Zucchini’s. Francesca is 11 and represents Leeds at gymnastics and plays football for Carlton Athletic and trains with Leeds United in the school holidays, she has also held a season ticket since the age of 6 and is basically sport mad.
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Enjoy yourself and live in the moment. Live each day like it is your last as time flies by without wishing your life away.
If you had to pick one age to be permanently, which age would you choose and why?
I would be 24 as this was the age that I took time out from work and went traveling with friends making many magical memories. Not too young to be wet behind the ears but not too old to be a risk taker, the perfect time in life.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Trustworthy, loyal and dependable.
