What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?

That we are here to sell to clients. The role is not that at all – we manage clients money to meet an objective, we discuss a client’s aims and priorities; and work out how to get them there – whether this be effective and tax efficient at retirement planning, or investing for the future. It is an incredibly rewarding role.

How do you like to start your day?

Ideally with a walk, but with two young children to get out of the house on time, my mornings often start early enough!!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

Sunny holidays – I am definitely solar powered!

What’s something you’re proud of?

Managing family life with work! Such a challenge, but I am really lucky I have a great team in the office to help me look after my clients.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

M&Ms.

Where would you be right now if you had zero obligations and money didn’t matter?

Somewhere hot and sunny, with blue sky and palm trees!

5 years ago I retired from paid work and sadly lost my mum shortly after. The two events together left me with some cash which I wanted to invest for my own benefit but also to help new businesses. I approached CHN having worked with Sophie previously and they spent the time really to understand my needs and philosophy. Out of those early meetings a really interesting portfolio was developed including a number of EIS investments giving me both tax advantages but also helping to support Start Up companies, engaging me in their development at all stages. I have also received and taken advice on my pension which included full negotiations with various pension providers, former employers and the advising Actuary and this now complements my standard share portfolio (which itself has traded above the industry average in the time concerned). It helps me immensely that CHN liaise directly with my accountant including me as required. As a professional advice and support team I could not wish for more.
